Mastodon v4.6 Newsletter feature

What is it??

In Mastodon 4.6, a new feature is introduced: Newsletters.
When a user enables that, anyone who isn't logged in that visits the profile, will see an option to subscribe to that profile via e-mail. This way, they will get e-mails with the new posts by that profile, without having to create a Mastodon account. How do I enable this?? (For Mastodon.World users)

Unfortunately, there's no option (yet) to enable this for all users. So for now, you need to send a message to @mwadmin@mastodon.world asking for access to the Newsletter option.

As soon as it's enabled for you, you'll see an option in your settings all the way at the bottom to 'Enable E-mail Signups' (https://mastodon.world/settings/privacy). A screenshot of the option mentioned before

Note on costs

Sending extra e-mails costs us extra money. If you have 2 subscribers and post 50 times a month, that's peanuts. But if you have 100 subscribers and post 10 times a day, costs for e-mail sending start adding up..

Because it's new, we'll see how it goes, but if we see high-usage users, we might ask for a small donation from these users to keep using this feature.

Of course you're always welcome to donate if you want to help us cover the (rapidly rising) costs of hosting our instances, see here for the donation platforms: https://mastodon.world/@mwadmin/116755755824972042
